Technolgy and Education

I often wonder if we are losing our ability to relate to other human beings because of some technology. I do feel that we are relying more and more on technology to help educate us. As a future educator I have learned to be very careful about what technology to use to educate students. I feel that we have moved away from general education. The video Do Schools Kill Creativity speaks volumes. I feel we are teaching our children to do away with their creativity. There is no right or wrong way to incorporate technology in the classrooms but we have to be very careful on how we do it. The quality of a classroom will depends on the quality of the teacher and not the presence of the technology. The purpose of education is the window to our imagination and our curiosity into the unknown while enhancing our creativity. Technology should be used as a tool to promote learning not to become depending upon it. Sir Ken Robinson also touched on the subject of diagnosing our children with ADHD and medicating them to calm them down. A child not being able to sit still for a long period of time is nothing new to classrooms. I think that the medical and pharmaceutical communities are to eager too medicate what I think is just a child trying to be creative and figure out who they are. I do understand with the classrooms being overcrowded it is a challenge to deal with children who are more active than others. I am not against medication but I do wonder are we diagnoising and medicating our children too soon.
